A special gift for Belleville mom

It was a Mother's Day to remember for Crystal Bechard and Brandon Watkinson.

Linkin Watkinson, all 7 pounds 6 ounces of him, arrived at Belleville hospital at 1:27 a.m. Sunday, making him the first baby born in the city on May 11, a Mother's Day present for the Belleville couple.

"You couldn't ask for a better one," Watkinson, 25, said.

Mom, 24, agreed.

"It was kind of neat that he was born on Mother's Day," Bechard said.

Little Linkin has a brother and sister at home and this was Bechard's second child.

The baby's name and the spelling are rather unusual and the couple were asked how they came up with it.

"I got it from a TV show, but that's not what we are naming him after," Watkinson said. "You don't hear it too often. The spelling actually came from ... the band Linkin Park."

The baby was due May 10, but didn't make the day. Bechard was induced earlier and the couple were at their Belleville home when it was time to go to the hospital, about 10:30 p.m.

Linkin arrived about three hours later, an easy birth, his mom said. "Very easy," Bechard said.

Bechard and Watkinson are engaged, with a wedding date of Feb. 13, 2010.

They were asked if the date had any special significance.

"We got together on Feb. 13, four years ago," Watkinson said, adding the couple was also engaged Feb. 13, 2008.

"(We) keep the same day so I don't forget it," Watkinson joked.
